Health insurance for spouse

Post by sridharraman » Thu Aug 13, 2015 11:33 am

Hi

I am accompanying my wife to Ireland on a long stay visa. She will be doing her PhD. I wanted to know what is the process for getting health insurance.

For my wife, the university provided it. I tried looking at some of the insurance providers' websites (Glo, Aviva) to see if I can purchase insurance for myself. They all seemed to want an address, phone number. Glo also said that I would need to create a bank account in Ireland before I purchase insurance. I am in India currently, what do I do?

Is there no way I can buy health insurance for myself? Do I need to do it only after find a house, opening a bank account?

Thanks,
Sridhar

yes I think PPS no is a necessity for this.

Bank account may be necessary only if you plan to pay this by direct debit.

Its better to buy some travel insurance from India for period of 1 month or so. Once you reach here, you would have enough time then to search, compare and fulfill any other formalities required for buying an insurance here.
