Changing Employer

Post by Vini.jegan@gmail.com » Tue May 21, 2019 6:57 am

Hi,
I hold general work permit and I got a job offer over 60k in Dublin and they are ready to apply for critical work permit but they want to speak to my current employer before applying.

The new employer is trusted partner.

Is it the same everywhere...??

Thanks
Vinodh

Why would they want to speak to your current employer? Doesn't happen that way. If your new employer is interested in you, they should file the new permit application. The speaking to old employer only happens as part of background check process (many dont do this as well).

Importantly, please be aware the new permit can only be filed after completing initial 12 months for the current employer.

Thanks for your reply.

My Work permit start date is on 09-April-2018.

I reached Ireland on 6-June-2018 and joined company on 07-Jun-2018.

Which date is considered as initial 12 months for the current employer.?

Can the new new employer apply now with the start date as 01-July-2019?

Your response is much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Vinodh,

To apply for a new work permit, you must have been employed in the state for 12 months since the commencement of your first job. So i would say to wait until 5th June and request your employer to apply on 6th of June.

Regards,
Jay

As Jay has mentioned rightly, the new employer should only apply for new permit application on or after 6th June 2019. Any efforts on earlier dates will be turned down by the DBEI as you would not have complete initial 12 months period on the existing employment.
