Stamp 3 spouse volunteering, getting reimbursement

Post by munimkazia » Sat Sep 09, 2017 5:57 pm

My wife has started volunteering in a digital marketing position in a travel company. I have a CSEP and she's eligible for a spousal work permit. But she was having difficulty getting a job without any relevant Irish market experience, hence she opted for this to get some free experience.

Anyway, the issue is that her company offers her 100 euros per week for her travel and food expenses. She actually spends around 7 euro per day, so this reimbursement is justified.

What is the legality of this reimbursement if you're on stamp 3? She is planning to open a revolut online account and give instead of Irish account to this, to be on safer side. Or is it better to ask for cash instead? Or maybe just a travel card?

Has anyone been in this position before? Some insight would be helpful.

Edit: they haven't taken her PPS number or anything

No PPS, it has to be cash.

They haven't taken pps but asked for bank account. I think she can request cash, but is it not safe to use something like revolut which is not Irish bank account?

Revolut is based in the UK. I don't think your Irish employer would want to credit a non-domestic account.

They're actually happy with any international account with an IBAN.

I guess its just because its just a small remuneration for travel expenses, and not actual payroll.

In any way reimbursements does not get calculated for tax, so i feel you might be even ok to receive here.

The problem wasn't with taxation. The problem is that she is on stamp 3 and doesn't have a work permit, so he is not allowed to work for any money.

Anyway, the matter is resolved. My wife mentioned her concerns, and they are ready to compensate her for travel and food with cash.

Thanks zero!
