Travelling to Belfast for a day trip

Post by apurvadutta » Mon Jun 17, 2019 9:03 am

Hi All,

I am living in Dublin from October and is planning to visit Belfast on a day tour with paddywagon or darbeogal etc. I don't have a UK visa though. Has anybody traveled to Belfast recently? Are there any checks? I heard that sometimes they stop bus and checks for passports? Is it true?

Please advice.

Thanks
Apurva

Hi Aprurva,

It depends on your luck. Usually there are no checks. But if you are really unlucky then there might be a check.

Although the chances are negligible. But still there could be a check.

There may or may not be checks. However, do bear in mind that people who were checked and got caught for not having a visa wont be in a position to respond to your query here, to tell you that they got caught. This type of query comes up in this board as well as the one in FB. In either places the typical responses are either - there were no checks or dont go without a visa. NOONE has responded "we went to NI without a visa, there were checks on at the border, we got caught and now we cannot get visas to any other country"

That should hopefully tell you what to do :)

My 2c: take a proper visa. Its not that difficult.
