submitting gnib for citizenship and India travel

Post by pinkbluerain » Tue May 28, 2019 2:16 pm

Hi,

I received my letter to pay the fees for the citizenship ceremony. I would need to submit my gnib card.

I have my travel plan to India next month end for a month. How can I proceed in this case?

Thanks,

Hello,

There wont be any issues while leaving Ireland but you need to have a copy of your approval letter and present it to the Garda officer while returning to Ireland. Immigration officers at the airport are part of INIS department, so they know the process pretty much. Ensure you have a copy of your IRP card as well before you submit it to the department. Good luck.

Regards.

Hi,
By approval letter you mean the letter we receive after the payment?

Also what will we show at the Immigration in India and during transit. They do check the our gnib/IRP cards, so If I don't have, will they allow to board?

Thanks,
Rains

Hi again,

Approval letter is the letter you already received asking for the payment/GNIB, etc., It would also say that your application has been granted by the Minister of Justice & Equality.
After making the payment you would get another letter from the department inviting you to attend a ceremony on a future date.

You can just show your copies of valid GNIB and citizenship approval letter to the Indian Immigration authorities as well. They can still check your Visa stamped on your passport eventhough Ireland abolished the re-entry visa
(or)
They can check the Garda Stamp on your passport (Stamped while registering for GNIB, this will have the end date of your stay in Ireland written by a Garda officer).

One of my friend in a similar situation just travelled back to Ireland last week, without any hassle.

Hope this helps.
Regards.
