Courier from India to Dublin - DHL demanding money

Post by SPKBhamidipati » Thu Feb 07, 2019 7:14 pm

While moving from Hyd to Dublin, I've booked my excess baggage (clothes, utensils & personal care items) in DHL courier. They have charged 22K for 20Kgs parcel and gave me a receipt. Now after the package arrived in Dublin & cleared customs ( as per tracking site), they have imposed import charges of 283 EURO. While I demanded the reason for levying such charges, they explained that the items are stated as gift items and now reduced it to 200 (stating 50 EURO for correcting the item description from gift to personal use items, 130 EURO for multi entry & rest for documentation). I really found this to be idiotic.
Has anyone faced this issue? I am not ready to pay that amount.
Any advice from the members will help me

DHL may have paid import duty already.
this happen when courier from outside EU arrives to Ireland.

I dont understand whats '130 EURO for multi entry'

I have faced similar situation with both Fedex and DHL while Fedex sent invoice after delivery and DHL demanded to be paid before even they deliver at door.
I see it is hard to convince them some are lucky with waiving off the charges but mostly everyone has to pay

Going forward, anyone following this thread, buy additional baggage with the airlines. no need to bring regular stuff from india as most of the stuff is already available here or on Amazon

I hope this would be helpful to people who wish to courier things from India.I did courier items through India Post .It takes 2weeks or sometimes 3 weeks to reach here. But the expense is less compared to DHL etc.
Unless you have very important documents required urgently, you can always go fo IndiaPost. They will directly be received at AnnPost and will be delivered to home just like normal post. You can courier utensils, clothes, food items etc.But there are restrictions on liquid, electronic substances and medicines.Last for 9kg,they charged around 5k which is very less compared to private courier services.

It depends. For me, I can suggest the below

1. Cooking vessels for special foods
2. Mixer Grinder
3. Other essential groceries for a week or two
4. Coconut Grater
5. Clothes that you need for celebration occasions.

you can get all the food items here, no need to bring any.
if you are used to hawkins pressure cooker, then you can get one.
mixer/grinder. if you are from south and thinking of long stay, you can bring wet grinder or you could wait for your next trip. you can order these things on amazon as well.
if you list items you are thinking of I can tell which ones available here
