Relocating to Limerick area, need suggestion

Post by pink_floyd » Mon Oct 12, 2020 5:07 am

I have been offered a transfer at my company's Shannon office. The salary offered was 105k euro base plus around 35k euro bonus+stocks per year.

Can it be considered a good or an average pay? How much would be in hand after taxes? What would be the cost of living for a family of 4 (including two kids)?

you can buy house soon.
especially if you are planning to live here for more than 5 years. I suggest to buy one instead of renting.
apart from salary account, start a credit union account and start saving.

I live in Dublin which is costlier than Limerick.

https://www.daft.ie/

check above site for knowing rent, house price in the area

I suggest you come alone first and stay in hotel for a while and find an appropriate house and bring spouse and kids.

I won't suggest paying deposit for rent without seeing the place

Many thanks for your help!!
I spoke to HR this week. Seems like the relocation package includes a hotel/apartment stay for 2 months. I hope we can find a good rental place by then.
Any suggestion about good neighborhood (with good schools) would be appreciated.

I just read about the "Stamp 4" thing. Can you get a bank loan before you get a stamp 4?

Buying a property always involves a lot of due diligence & deliberations as it comes with a heavy upfront cost in case of outright purchase and long term financial commitment in case of loan. You need to be doubly sure when buying a property at a country not native to you.

I suggest take it easy. Reach Ireland, see the place and determine for yourself if you are sure of a long term commitment with buying a property. You would have many more things to sort out before buying a property

As somebody said above, wait for a couple of years before thinking about buying house.
Plan for it if you are going to stay in the country longer
