Letter from Income Tax Department - India

Post by SPKBhamidipati » Wed Feb 12, 2020 9:19 pm

Hello,
To give a quick background of my case, I moved to Ireland in 2019 & family was in India. For 2019 I was charged higher tax under 'Single' category though I am married. The reason being wife is not in Ireland and her PPS isn't linked to mine.
Now, I would like to claim tax credits for 2019 providing my marriage certificate. However, I was asked to provide a letter from Indian Tax Authorities stating that my wife has no income in India & she is totally dependent on me.

I'm not sure if Income Tax Department in India provides such letter. If not, Can someone help what/which letter will suffice in this case?

your wife in India now?
Was she in Ireland when she got PPS?

I haven't seen somebody claiming it like this.
May be your wife can submit IT returns in India with no income and show that here

Yes. We can claim like that under aggregated tax relief. This is applicable when spouse is not in Ireland & is not having any income in the country that he/she is staying i.e. financially dependent on the person living in Ireland.

You can show the income tax return filed by your wife as proof that she did not have income.
